EA rules & assumptions
Based on the proposed University of Melbourne Enterprise Agreement 2026 supplied for this app.
Read the supplied agreement ↗Professional staff · clause 3.26
Three weeks per completed year, plus 0.25 weeks per completed month in a partial year. Add two weeks if aged 45 or over on the notice date. The total is at least 14 and at most 52 weeks.
Academic staff · clause 2.21
20 weeks if under 45, or 22 weeks if aged 45 or over, plus three weeks for every completed year of service (service component capped at 52 weeks). Overall maximum: 74 weeks. This planner assesses academic age at the final employment date; confirm the assessment date with HR.
Notice, leave & salary basis
This planner assumes employment ends two calendar months after the notice date, with month-end dates clamped to the last valid day. Clause 1.49 provides eight weeks’ notice. Early separation pays the remaining notice balance and assesses redundancy pay at the final employment date. Clauses 2.21.4 and 3.26.4 include eligible allowances and loadings in redundancy salary, excluding additional hours and super. Weekly pay follows the supplied payroll workbook: annual salary ÷ (365.25 ÷ 14), rounded up to cents per fortnight, then divided by two. This also follows the salary conversion in proposed EA clauses 2.2.4 and 3.2.3. Service includes the departure day. The 52-week cap is applied in weeks under the proposed EA; the older payroll workbook uses annual salary as its cash cap, which can differ slightly. Leave uses the entered balance and base hourly rate; loading must be confirmed separately. Tax estimates follow ATO withholding schedules 7 and 11 for Australian residents with a TFN and qualifying genuine redundancy; later-year indexed thresholds are explicitly provisional.
Who this covers & when to check with HR
Standard continuing professional and academic employees only. Fixed-term, casual and continuing research-contingent arrangements are outside this calculator. Alternative-position rules can exclude redundancy pay. Service breaks, unpaid leave, previous FTE changes, special salary arrangements and other entitlements need payroll review.
Agreement status & source notes
Status checked 29 October 2026: the 27 October agreement is proposed and subject to voting and Fair Work Commission approval. This calculator models that supplied document, rather than determining current legal entitlements. Some cross-references and numbering in the supplied draft appear inconsistent; the substantive redundancy provisions used here are 2.21 and 3.26.

Salary rules & assumptions
Each point is the salary rate on that date, held for a full year for comparison. Scheduled changes during that year are not prorated. Listed UoM professional salaries use the supplied proposed EA 2026, Schedule A. The grade stays fixed unless you model a promotion; incremental advancement is not automatic.
After the last defined schedule in 2029, salaries are projected to rise 3.5% each 1 November from 2030. SM1 is a user-supplied $250,000 base for 2026, with 3.5% compounded each 1 November from 2027. SM2 remains a user-supplied $320,000 base for 2029, with increases from November 2030. A custom salary stays fixed until any modelled promotion.
Full-time base salary is multiplied by FTE once. Monthly = annual ÷ 12. Fortnightly = annual × 14 ÷ 365.25; displayed amounts are rounded to cents. Gross figures exclude super, allowances, bonuses and salary packaging. After-tax pay is an annual estimate, divided by the same period factors; it may differ from payroll withholding. INR uses an indicative or custom planning rate for all years and excludes fees.
Tax assumes a full-year Australian resident claiming the tax-free threshold, with salary as their only taxable income. It uses marginal income tax rates for the financial year containing each salary date, plus the individual Medicare levy (normally 2%, with the standard low-income reduction). It excludes tax offsets and rebates, including LITO, HELP repayments, Medicare levy surcharge, deductions, salary sacrifice, exemptions, and family or seniors adjustments. Your actual take-home pay may differ.
The first taxable bracket is 16% in 2024–25 and 2025–26, 15% in 2026–27 and 14% from 2027–28. Other thresholds stay fixed. Future projections hold these latest legislated rates and known Medicare thresholds unchanged, without inflation indexing or assumptions about later tax changes. Standard Medicare thresholds are $27,222 in 2024–25 and $28,011 from 2025–26. Tax estimates before July 2024 are unavailable.
